Free Wellbeing Event to Support Local Community

11 June, 2026

The Macmillan Cancer Champion Programme, which is an element of the St Helens Wellbeing Service, part of City Health Care Partnership CIC is hosting a free Health and Wellbeing Event on Saturday 20 June at Queens Park Leisure Centre, from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

The event will bring together a range of local services and organisations to provide support, information and advice for people affected by cancer, as well as anyone looking to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

A key feature of the event will be the Living Well Team’s mobile unit, which will be offering cervical cancer screening on site. Operating on a drop-in basis with no appointment required, the service will provide cervical screening checks for women aged 18 to 64. The mobile unit will be located near the outdoor gym and in front of the padel courts, making it easy for eligible women to access this important screening service in a convenient community setting.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for the local community to access testing on their doorstep,” said Nicola Griffiths, Volunteer Co-ordinator. “We are meeting people where they are.”

The event forms part of the Macmillan Cancer Champion Programme’s ongoing work across Parr and the Town Centre, where champions work closely with local residents and community partners to raise awareness of cancer prevention and early detection, while helping people access health information, support services and wellbeing opportunities within their neighbourhoods.

Visitors will also be able to meet the Cancer Champion team to find out more about the support available, speak to trained champions, and access a range of helpful resources. Partner organisations will be on hand throughout the day to provide information about their services and signpost people to further support available across the borough.

The event is open to everyone, with a particular focus on supporting people affected by cancer or those who may have concerns about their health. It also aims to encourage more women to take up the opportunity of cervical screening in a welcoming and accessible environment.

Residents are encouraged to come along, learn more about local services, and take positive steps towards improving their health and wellbeing.
