Allotment Volunteer

Do you enjoy being in the outdoors and have an interest in growing vegetables or flowers?

An exciting opportunity has arisen within St Helens Wellbeing Service for support with our allotment project, to grow produce and give back to the community. The Allotment is located at Nutgrove Allotments, Maine Ave (WA10 3NZ) and is a great place to spend time, helping your physical and mental wellbeing, supporting allotment activities and having a brew and a chat.

The volunteer will help with:

  • Weeding and planting (High beds/low beds)
  • Nurturing seedlings
  • Maintenance of the allotment, planting seeds and watering plants
  • Growing Fruit & Veg
  • Setting up and putting away
  • Making tea and coffee for attendees

What skills and qualities do I need?

  • An interest in gardening/allotments would be beneficial but not essential
  • Ability to offer empathy and support when working with vulnerable adults
  • Effective communicator
  • Calm, understanding manner
  • Completion of the CHCP Volunteer Mandatory Training prior to post

Benefits to You

  • Valuable experience from working alongside staff from our Mental Wellbeing team
  • Support from a designated member on the day for any unknown queries

We are always looking for how volunteers can participle in the different teams we have. Don’t forget to check out the other volunteering tabs in this section to find out other projects you may want to get involved in.

Getting Active

Me and my girls have really enjoyed the class after school, it is fun for all the family to get involved in. We've learnt a lot about healthy eating and things we shouldn't be eating. It's fun and free! Really enjoyed it.
